Tyne & Wear Emergency Planning Unit Tyne and Wear Emergency Planning Unit (EPU) provides an emergency planning service to the five Councils of Tyne and Wear. Tyne and Wear EPU in consultation with the five Councils and a range of other partner agencies develops and maintains both generic and specialist Major Incident Plans. These plans are designed to assist the Local Authorities and responding agencies in their efforts to effectively coordinate resources to minimize the effect of a major incident. The EPU also provides additional support Councils on arrange of emergency preparedness and response issues. During an incident the EPU will act in an advisory role and will also co-ordinate the efforts of any voluntary agencies to assist the Local Authority. The EPU will also co-ordinate any mutual aid arrangements from neighbouring Local Authorities should the incident warrant such assistance.
