The friendship agreement involves the two cities working together on a host of activities designed to create closer friendship and co-operation over the next five years. And the link between John F Kennedy School in Washington and Garfield Elementary School in Washington DC has come about as a result of the agreement which aims to boost economic development and generate new cultural and educational programmes in Sunderland and Washington DC.
